Here's a picture of my 3 toed pair Lilly (on the left) and her man Rudy. They are the parents of my latest 3 toed hatchling. They have been seperated for a while and when I put them together for this picture, Rudy had the look of romance in his eyes as you can see! He was also doing some mating ritual head bobbing!

Here's their baby that hatched on July 12, 2006.

Here's a picture of their 2 older girls that I hatched out 4 years ago.

I just got a baby baby box turtle today. She is burying herself in the bedding and doesn't really have any desire to eat. She still has some of the egg sack attached so I am not really concerned about her eating. Should I change the bedding so that she can't bury herself in it?

Any advice would be helpful.

Is this normal? Or should I be worried. How long do they take to eat normal food?

I'm not sure about box turtles??

If it still has the sack attached it's fine - my knowledge. Someone else needs to help out here- not an expert on boxies.

That sack is almost completely gone. There is very little left. I know that they can be shy but to burrow all day--is that normal???

YES, it is very normal for the hatchling to burrow all day. This is what they would do in nature to hide from predators who might want to eat him. You will see him come out occassionally.

Please be sure to be using a moist bedding. Box turtle hatchlings can dry out easily and dehydrate. I use moist spagnum moss. I also mist it with water daily.

You can try and feed it soon. I give mine Rptomin food sticks that I buy at Walmart and small chopped up worms. When I feed it Reptomin I put the turtle in a small cat litter pan with just a small amount of water in it so the food sticks can float. I then put the turtle in it and leave the room. Baby box turtles are shy and may not eat in front of you. I also feed them pill bugs also called potato bugs.

Don't worry if it doesn't eat right away. Sometimes it takes a while, but be sure to try everyday.

I hope this helps.
