| Booger and Squirt are about 8 months now. Just recently (mostly at night) I have noticed one of them goes head to head with the other with it's claws out and shakes their claws at the other. Is that like a defense move or is it just a way of playing? |

welcome to the board this is what's known as "the mating dance". it's considered as a mating ritual although many turtles do it to those of the same gender or even to non-living objects. there's nothing to worry about unless u catch them mating _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

when i first got jabora , he did that o jabori in the bathtub, i heard it might be also a dominance thing. . jabori always does it to turtle toys and stuff in the tank- i took his favorite turtle ornament out though b/c it started to corrode. . but i think its normal, it gives them something to do _________________ "my turtles can beat your turtles' tail" |

Oh boy ,nobody has been here for a while now!!! i'll try anyways .my 2 turtles do the same, except when the biggest started the little one tried to get away or would not respond. now the smallest one who has grown to a good size takes on the big one ,and now the big one seems to have a huge problem with that ,he does respond but tries desperately to get away or just won't stand still or move forward . Also the big ones reproductive organ eventually shows up or out!!! and that is where it ends.they can go at it for a while .Hopefully will lead to more.(I'm hoping).I'll keep you guys posted if anything comes up. _________________ have you hugged your turtle today? |

initially Buddy(big one) is supposed to be the male (has to be if his organ is present!!!!) silly me from our experience and what we know of the turtles sexes the small one should be female unless he or she is too small to even show what it has under its tail!!!!. another thing i have noticed its that Buddy is the one initiating the hand clapping, i feel that is all he thinks about when he crosses the little one.I haven't caught the small one starting it ,the small one usually follows Buddy as if to say h yeah you want to see how it feels,i'll show you _________________ have you hugged your turtle today? |

yes there must be at least a year difference, Dory's claws are very short as for Buddy's they are sooooo long. Dory's shell is approximately 3 1/2 inches(top of shell)and Buddy's is very close to being 5 inches. Now you guys do the math as for the age!!!! because i have no idea how old they can be, they don't come with a birth certificate lol.If it helps Dory's face is different from Buddy's, he has a much longer pointy nose and Dory has a short round face, her nose barely sticks out between her eyes. _________________ have you hugged your turtle today? |

Dixieee you had asked me on august 5 if there was aggressiveness coming from either and the answer is no. it looks mostly like submissive, although when Dory answers Buddy's call she comes on strong!!! _________________ have you hugged your turtle today? |
