my baby RES, Sesame, has just started eating. i wondered if i'm doing well with his diet.

i give Sesame about 3 Nutrafin pellets a day, which i feed to him in a separate container and he usually goes through most of.

i just started putting very thin carrot peelings in his tank, which he seemed to pull into the water with him yesterday, so i'm replenishing those each day to start him on veggies.

i also got a package of frozen bloodworms at the pet store the other day, and i gave Sesame a few, and he gobbled them up! i know bloodworms aren't good to give every day, but why is this? and is it ok to give him the worms once a week or should i keep it down to once every two weeks or once a month?

thanks!

Debby and Sesame

yay Razz

sounds like a good variety. he does need such food in his diet cz baby turtles are more carnivorous but too much worms and meats will result in very high levels of protein and fats that's why it's not good to be fed more than twice a week. stick to that diet for now and as he grows u can increase the amounts a bit while checking if he's getting overweight. u can do that by flipping him and looking at his feet holes. if u see flesh coming out all the time not only when breathing then u need to cut down the amount.

good luck with little sesame Smile

well for most of it it sounds like a great diet but all ive got to say don't over do on the blood worms because they are a little bit fating. thats why every one say feed 1 every week or even some people feed once every two weeks but for my baby red ear slider we won't even exept them (s)he is soo picky but (s)he does like earth worms. and also mabey try offering more vegies, and fruits? and meats and mabey throw in a few of feeder fish?
