and I never even knew they mated. I have had these 2 RES for 5 years and they have always been in the same (55gal) tank. This morning I woke up and there were 3 eggs in the rock area and they were all cracked or torn apart.

HOW am I to know if they are mating and she is pregnant??? I keep the tank at 75°-76° and everything I read says it has to be cool or cold to mate. And if she just had them could she have more today or is that it and when will they mate again??? If soon I will move them to a nesting (30 gal) tank.

Thanks,
Rachael

Thanks.... I think I am more upset with myself than anything, that I missed all the signs. She was basking more than usual and not eating and I noticed she was bulging at the sides by her back legs. I am just kicking myself that I missed it and we could have had babies.

But so far no more eggs... maybe I will catch the next ones.

According to that sticky, breeding isn't an easy thing to do. And things can go bad from the second you pick up the egg (if you flip it, you'll kill the little guy).. Also, you don't want to breed a type that's already in abundance, people want the rare ones more than anything... Did you read that sticky at the top of this forum? Loads of great info there!! Wink
