HI everyone,

I've been considering getting a RES or leopard tortoise but I want to make sure I can handle taking care of one before i impulsively buy one.
It may be a long time before I actually get one but I wanted to read up first and talk to some people who know what they're doing(like u guys,hehe).
Anyway,I just wanted to introduce myself and say "hi."

Also...do any of you have experience buying from turtlesale.com?The idea of shipping a baby turtle kinda worries me...

Hey, welcome to the forum! Feel free to ask any questions you might have, we would be happy to help you out! Smile

About TurtleSale.com... run away! They take very poor care of their turtles, especially their RES. They do not ship them adequately. I have read many, many posts about people recieving dead RES, or RES who died shortly after arival. A few people that suffered these experiences are on this forum, so I am sure they can give you their point of views as well!

). anyways, yeah stay away from turtlesale.com, the way they advertise for those babies is sick enough Exclamation

so a RES or a tortoise? what about the extreme options? Smile

ok if u need anything or want to share anything feel free. we're all turtle freaks in here. let us know when u get ur new baby

I'm still trying to figure out whether a RES or tortoise is better for me.
I'm worried about all the water filtration issues that come with a water turtle...
I think a tortoise may be a better choice,provided I can give it a proper enclosure.

Anyway,I'll be sure to bug u guys plenty Very Happy

I feel a turtle addiction comin on...

I can understand that. I have kept water turtles before, and they are a bit of work. I recently bought a Russian Tortoise, and for me he is much easier to keep.

hmm yeah if that's what u're considering then go for a land turtles. but tortoises grow too big right? not sure on that Question

just a little off the subject but dont land turtles need big lands to walk on and stuff like u cant keep them in a tank u need a big land area dont u?

It really depends on the size of the land turtle, if they're going to grow a to a considerable size, then yes, they will need plenty of room to move around. If they're going to stay relatively small then they would be ok with a little less room. But hey, we're talking about a pet here, they need space of their own, even when they're aquatic... look at the size of the tanks we need, it's definitely not like owning fish... unless you own the big ones! Wink

Here's what I'm trying to get at: It depends on the size they'll be when they're full grown... Wink

A Russian Tortoise only grows to be 8 inches, and even that is big for a Russian.

If you are interested in one, check out RussianTortoise.org. It's an excellent website with all of the information you will need. Just be wary about joining the Russian Tortoise Yahoo! group. I recently left it. You can't say anything without someone critisizing you about how you are caring for your tortoise. They tell you to check out the website, and then when you do everything the website tells you to, they tell you they don't really approve. But now I am rambling, LOL.
