Nevfalath

My new baby Russian Tortoise arrived today. I have decided to call him Ivan. He is just so adorable. So far he seems healthy and active. He even chowed down on some tasty red and green leaf lettuce, as well as some romaine. However, I plan to take him to the vet a.s.a.p. just for a check-up and to make sure he doesn't have any internal parasites.

I went to four different breeders looking for a Russian Tortoise and they all sold out... two of them sold their last one the day before! I ended up going to TurtleSale.com.

I took a HUGE risk. I read their store policy and thought to myself, "They can't be that bad..." Then I read your previous post on them, which made me nervous. I then joined a forum just on Russian Tortoises, and once I told them where I ordered him from, they all blew up at me! I knew the place was bad, but I had no idea it was that bad.

I tried to call and canel my order, but it was too late. I ordered him on a Friday, and they are closed on weekends. I spent all weekend scared to death that he would arrive dead or sick. I paid for overnight delivery, so he came pretty quick. Thankfully he was alive and seemed to be well.

Now I am scared he might have internal parasites, because you never know how bad they take care of them at TurtleSale.com. I am so angry at myself for giving those people money! Not only that, but I have been told that I paid too much.

Although I am annoyed that I helped them carry on their business, I am glad that I was able to save poor little Ivan from them. I love him to death and now he can live safely with me. I am taking him to a vet soon because I don't want him to die on me... you never know what he might have!

When buying him, I had to call him and tell them not to send me a free RES, as well as write it on the order form AND the PayPal form. Luckily they didn't send me one

He did come in poor packaging though. He came in one of those little plastic boxes, kind of like what resturants give you to take home left-overs in. It had a few holes punched in the top and was stuffed with packing peanuts so he wouldn't move around. (I noticed some bites marks in some of the peanuts... the poor little thing must have been hungry!) That was then placed in a careboard box with NO airholes at all. The box did not even say Live Animals on it... it had a Fragile sticker on it, which was covered up by an address label! It sickens me to think all the tossing around that he may have went though... Also they sent some free pellet food, which is very bad for Russians!! Not only that, but on their website it says they feed them fruit, which also is horrible for them! He also came with a caresheet on AQUATIC turtles... do they realize Russians are tortoises and are not aquatic?

I wish I knew all of this before I paid those idiots. I am smacking myself. I highly suggest that no one buy any turtles from these people. I got VERY lucky this time, and I know we may all want to try to save their turtles, but as long as no one pays them, they can't stay in business. I only hope someday they are shut down.

Ivan did the cutest thing today... he buried himself in his hay (as he usually likes to do), but then he stuck his little head out of the pile and was just watching me! I had to take a picture...

omg thos epeople in that fourms was mad at you!goodness thiose people are rude i am never going to get turtle from their.now same with me i now hope they are shut down for good plus when i got my turtles from them it was the same thing they did like what you said about the package and gave me free food and i gave some of that free food from them.i think is so horible that the box doesent have holes and dosent even say live animal..and Ivan is ssssssooo cute
