For a heating sors what kind of watt sould I use?

My heat light is a regular 40 watt bulb. It is pretty close to the basking spot, about 6 inches. I have a 10 gallon tank. It keeps the basking spot warm without warming the water too much.
For a larger tank, I'd suggest a higher wattage, further from the turtle.
