hi everyone i'm happy to say that i have been a happy turtle owner for 5 yearsa now and me and my turtles been to texas to louisiana and mississippi i had 3 fantastic aquatic turtles we had 2 red ear sliders and one mississippi map turtle, that we love so much and 2 box turtles 1 baby and one huge one!!! but i am saddly to report thqat my girl red ear slider past away the other day it breaks my heart me and my wife it was her turtle!! she was egg bound we knew she was pregant and as soon as we found out we hurried to the store got a huge tub but dirt in it and but our girl in there as she started to dig the hole she didn't lay a few days goes by and we but her in for as long as she could stay in there and take her or she jump out she was so smart but my biggest thing was we thought we could do this by reading post on internet sites sound simple enough, we left mondy moring she was happy as can be fine she had stop doing the digging with her back feet and seem find but she wasn't, we can home tuesday eving and our baby was lying life less on the floor it broke our heart her eyes were shut but she still move a little but not much at all we rush her to the vet. and found out that one of the eggs were stuck to her pelvis and it wouldn't allow her to past the rest of the eggs!!! plus she was worn out and just tired she didn't want water food and she was just stress out well today my wife had to pick her up and bury her to day. its like we lost a member of the family we can't forgive our selves that we didn't take her soon enought to the vet so if u read anything any thing on the internet especially if u think ur turtle is pregant please consult a vet especially one that specialize in turtles and other reptitles!!! i probably have my baby here with me now if it wouldn't have sound so easy on the internet!!!
a other thing to tell the different in turtle sex is the bottom of there shell next to there tail the male shell is flat but the female shell has a semi circle by the tail thats the easiest way to tell!!! thank you for this website i wish we would have found it sooner!!!! we love u buttercup and miss u so much!!! please watch over ur brother and sister!!!

Sorry to hear about your baby, I wish that it would've turned out different, I agree with you that if someone finds out that their turtle is pregnant, take it to the vet immediately, that way the vet can check that the turtle is alright by itself, if not, he can intervene. _________________

Awww, I am so sorry! You did the best you could. You set her up an egg-laying sand box and everything... don't blame yourself. It won't do any good but cause more grief and pain. I recently lost a baby painted turtle and I blamed myself every day for his death, and it did me no good. Just remember she was very happy with you and lead a very good life. _________________ -= Shannon =- |

I am still crying after I read your post, you did do everything and I believe that your sweetheart knows that. My heart goes out to you and your wife. And trust me the pain will give way to smiles when you think of her down the road. Wonderful loving souls both of you.
God Bless
