Well I am now the owner of RES they have a 125 gallon set up with all the fixings. The question I have is should they be seperated? I was planning on getting a bigger pad for them once they grow a little ( am using an old aquarium of mine) and have heard that males can get a little aggressive towards other turtles.
Any suggestions?
Oh and one of the turtles seems to have quite a bit lighter colored shell then the other. Is that common?
Thanks in advance. and awesome sight has been real informative for me. |

My advice is to separate them. Turtles, especially femakes, can become very aggresive once they hit puberty. Besides, a full grown male RES will need a 70 gallon tank, and a full grown female will need a 120 gallon tank, so eventually when they grow up, your tank won't be big enough for them both.
Sadly, I learned the harsh lesson on separating two turtles late. You can read more about it here. In my case, the turtles were two different sizes, but I have also heard of many cases where even turtles of the same size have faught and injured, or even killed one another. If you do plan to keep them together, just keep a very close eye on them.
How old are your turtles? When young, their shells are a very light green, which darkens as they grow.
Also, Aquariums For You is a good website that sells all kinds of different aquariums, from glass to acrylic, from hexogonal to pentagon. They also specialize in custum made aquariums.
I hope this helps. _________________ -= Shannon =- |
