| since one big difference between reptiles and amphibians is skin, I would assume that salamanders' skin is not the same as scales, fur, or nails. Salamanders do not have scales. Their skin is very porous to obsorb moisture and is smooth. I believe it DOES contain a type of keratin that is soft that helps to keep them from drying out though. Dry keratin scales are not very permeable, whereas salamanders and other amphibians have that slimy smooth permeable skin. I hope that answers your question. |
