I'm sorry to hear that.
Baby chickens take some special care. Do you have the temps right for them at the age they are now? Try going to McMurry hatchery pages for some info on caring for chicks. They have some good info. Also a place called backyard chickens. It is a group of people that have just a few birds.
I keep a small flock of Buff Orpington and Americana hens for eggs. I also have a BIG turkey that I just found a new home for as he really has no use at my house other than eat and hiss at everyone. Chickens are neat to have around. My girls are personable and very sweet. However they are difficult to start. Babies need temps in the low 90's to start with plenty of fresh food and water. You need to always check for things like spraddle leg. So check out some places that will help you get the knowledge to properly care for your critters. _________________

Those are the Americana chicks aka: easter eggers.
I just picked up a few more to add to my flock a couple days ago. I choose the White Leghorns. They lay big eggs and are gentle birds
AS for them eating something in the yard that isn't usually a problem usless you spray and then you have a serious problem and shouldn't have any of your pets out there.
Depending on the age of your chicks they need warmth. Young babies need around 95 getting cooler as they get older. I use a infarred 100 watt bulb over mine always making sure they also have a cooler area to go if they do get to hot. I use a digital thermometor to keep an eye on the temps too. Feed starter crumbles and make sure you change out the water at least twice a day and clean the water bowl with bleach when you clean it. The chicks will deficate in their water and that can make them very ill. They also do need sunlight but usually that can wait until they are at least a couple months old before you need to worry about that one. How old is your remaining chick? If you are not really certain, just figure it was just a few days at the most when you bought it. They have to be shipped the day after they hatch. _________________
