This is my turt, Snappy I have since removed the substrate, thought it was a good idea at first, now it's obvious they can break and cut her, I broke one cleaning the tank and decided to take them all out for her safety! I have added plants now too so I'm taking new pics tonight and will post them this week!
Oh ya, that's Kurt and Goldie in there with her! supposed to be food, now it looks like they're chillin for good They're the lucky two Snap decided not to eat!

Thanks, Dixieee! Snap's about five or six inches now, I can't believe how much and how fast she grew when I got her the bigger tank! I'm so excited that I get to take her to my son's school next week, to show off to his classmates. They won't get to touch her, not that I'm worried about the kids getting salmonella (they're great handwashers & the classroom always has that gel sanitizer stuff)... I'm more worried about her getting scared with all the kids. _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

She is so cute. I am waiting for her new pics.
I take mine in for educational purposes alot. I find they don't do to bad but I try to limit how much touching the kids do. The kids like to feel the shells and I let them touch the skin as some kids think it is slimmy. But I never let them actually hold the turtles. I had one dropped once and it was an accident but I just learned to hold the turtle and let the kids gently feel. It is easier on the turtle also because they are used to me and they are comfortable with my touch. _________________

Very clear water Nice choice of substrate, if you have a "Fish tank". She looks very healthy. I might be wrong, but I feel that if you keep your turtle's water/filter/tank clean they might not have as much samonilla as people think. It's the people that don't take care of thier turtles (Wich is no one on here, cause if you frequent this forum, you care about your pet and leave them in disgusting water/unclean filters/tanks, thats where you more likley to find sammi. I don't know, that's what I think. _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.

Thanks! I finally have the Fluval filter and it is so nice!! I was doing partial water changes once a week and having to clean the filter way too often! I'm just so thankful for this forum, it has been so informative! Unfortunately I won't be able to buy all the things I want to finish Snap's tank until after our family trip to SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo and Disneyland next week!! My son and I are really looking forward to that! We have a Savage Seas exhibit at the museum here & they have a HUGE ancient turtle skeleton cast!! I should take a picture of it and post.... ya, I'll do that! It's outrageously cool!
I think you guys are right and I should let the kids touch (not hold! ) her a little, just to see what she feels like. It's a fairly small group of kids and that's a good point that she's used to me so hopefully it won't freak her out too much! My son is just as excited about it as I am! _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

aww she's beautiful! and the fish are too!
question: when you get fish that size, "if" the turtle decides to eat them, is their death quick?
I have the tiny feeder fish in there with mine right now (Rosies I think their called?) and she decided to eat all but 2. The one I saw her eat was all in one bite. I was thinking about getting a a couple gold fish like you have there, but if she decides to snap at them, I wanted to make sure they don't suffer.
looking forward to your other pics! |

Those fish were teeny tiny when I bought them!! I bought four and Snap only ate two!! But those two, ya, they were bite size at the time. Silly girl must've decided she didn't like them, but she had to try it twice before she figured that out! I would guess that if a turt decided to eat fish that size then it might be painful since it would take more than one bite to get them down. Not a very nice thought if you look at it from the fish's point of view, is it? But if your turt's a voracious eater, and most of them are, it might not last too long!

Well, hello there, Lion777, welcome to the board!! Hope you can find all the info and help you need here... I know I have (and then some!!) Thanks! It's from my mom's digital camera, Lord knows all my extra money goes to the turt so I'm happy to go without the techno gadgets (for now)! _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

| I really wanted to name him another name that's in the BIBLE, but I really didn't know how to spell it at the time. Later on I went to look it up in the Bible and find the name, but I said I'll keep the name that I already gave him. YES,I will be putting pics of him and Zorra soon, my bro is going to teach me a way that's easy. |

| You've got a pretty-looking RES there. But is it ok for fishes to be in the swim area too? Doesn't your turtle eat them? |

I originally bought four of them, she ate two of and then I guess she decided she didn't like them. I found out afterwards that goldfish aren't the best for turts, that they're too fatty or something. Snap hasn't chased them or anything for almost a year now, but I won't be surprised if one day I get home and one or both of them are missing.... _________________ shade & sweetwater! |
