I went all out for this upgrade! Smile 75 gal tank,
large CLEAN river rocks with some extra support from non-toxic aquarium sealant
Rena Filstar xp3 canister filter, and my beautiful 4 year old, PacMan (named her before I could tell she was a girl) so I guess she could be Miss PacMan Smile

48" UVB, 2 red heat bulbs, and a UVA basking bulb over the rock...

the basking rock

PacMan checking the place out

a closer look

another angle...

Smile hopefully this means a happy turtle!

Wow! That is a BEAUTIFUL habitat!

I'm going to get me a larger tank this weekend, and could use some advice.

On the rocks, did you BUY those, or did you actually find them out in the "river"? Theyr'e awsome...

So, let me get this straight, you glued the rocks together?

The rocks were bought from a landscaping company close to where I live. They had SEVERAL different types to chose from and the first time I went, I picked some out that I didn't know were not good to use in the tank (they were too soft and would change then pH of the water too much) So then I went back and got the right kind. The ones you see there were actually taken from a river. they are very smooth...and were like 45 cents a pound. (the original ones I had were like 25 cents) The man was really nice...he let me pick the ones I wanted out. Then I took them home and soaked them in water and bleach (like 5%) over night. Then I rinced them off and soaked them for a day in plain water with de-chlorinator and then boiled the ones that I could for a few hours (yes, I'm a little anal but i love my turtle)!

As for your second question, a few of the rocks are in fact "glued" together with aquarium silicone tank sealant. The large rocks are heavy and stayed put where I needed them. I let the stuff dry for a couple days before putting them in the tank though. hope that helps!

Thanks everyone! I really did try! Wink

WOW! You're tank is awesome! What a great setup! I recently removed my substrate and am in the process now of deciding what to use. I love the river rocks!! And aquarium silicone was a brilliant idea, one that I might have to bite! Laughing
