My turtles look bored a lot (I have 3). Does anyone ever take their turtles out and let them play? I have taken them out and let them walk on a towel on my bed a couple of times, but I'm not sure if they like it. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Turtles definitely like to play. Try these-

break off a piece of cuttlebone and float it in the tank. They'll enjoy chasing it around and it gives them calcium when they eat it. (you'll find it in the bird section of the pet store)

Dixieee likes to float rubber duckies or ping pong balls.

Mine enjoy digging for little chunks of carrots in the river rock.

Letting them out for a walk is a good idea, also gives them excercise.

Anyone else have any other ideas??

Embarassed Embarassed

if their setup is somehow not big enough, fill the bathtub for them and they'll swim freely Smile

1st - ms. dixiee just has the cutest setup with a toy raft in there for them to play on. that's one of the best ideas i've ever seen...

i have a golf ball in my turtles tank and when they're not harrassing each other, they push the ball around.

i take mine outside to play. we have a fenced in section in my backyard with a swimming pool. around that area, there's a little bricked in garden type thing. we have all kinds of toad houses, garden gnomes and statues there. the turtles like to scamper around that area and go into the toad houses.

sometimes i put my turtles in the bathtub too. they like to slide around on the part that is further up and into the water below. Smile

Both of my RES love to play. They like to look for food in their rocks, but esp they like to walk around freely...I let them out of their tank, but only under my supervision. They love to climb, so i give them many obstacles. They love it!

Hi Again

I like to have a couple of smaller logs in the water as fred can move them around by chucking them up on his shell. and also good for his nails. Plants are great to as they pull them up and i replant them.

Freds annoying habit is pulling the lid of his fillter. once i have put it back on he pulls it off again. drives me nuts... but he likes doing it and I cant quite workout how he worked it out!!! Very smart

If you choose to add some logs in good things to 'member are if you are getting them from "the garden" then sand them back to remove anybits easily swallowed and then soak them in a bucket for at least a month prior. The good soaking will remove any toxins that has been picked up enviromentally so make sure in that month the water is changed a couple of times a week or so.

My turtle loves re-arranging rocks or pushing them around. I used to have 4 rocks in her cage so that she could go up on them for a basking area and she would start shoving her head at them to move them around.

But then I got her a floating dock. I took all but the smallest rock out. I figured she would like to have something to push around, and I think she does. However... now that I have the floating dock, my bratty turtle pushes at the poles on the bottom and detaches the suction cups. Then she gets mad when it wiggles when she gets on it Laughing

I'm glad she doesn't try to detach the ones on top!

Oh, she also moves the thermometer around and still moves her rock around. She also trys to move the filter sometimes, but that's a little to big for her! Laughing
