| I have 2,approximately 2 year old +,painted turtles from Minnesota. They are indoors over the winter. I have the appropriate lights for vitamen D etc. and a heating lamp for sunning. Also, they can swim around and get completely out of the water easily. All seems well with them, but I think they are getting fat. I pulled back on feeding them just recently. From every day to every other or every 3rd day. I only now, feed them Repto Min. and an occasional worm. Their shells look dry and I know they are growing, because their scutes are peeling. I don't see any fungus, unless green algee (very slight) on the edge of shells is something to worry about. Any ideas on how to help them or even if they need help? Also, will they lose weight? Thanks |

welcome to the board
1st: to make their shells look better, get a soft toothbrush and rub their shells gently under warm running water. it'll help keep the algae away..
2nd: cut down the amount u give them as u did and depend more on veggies. lettuce and carrots will do. ok ur little guys won't like it at first but they'll eat it rather than starve. another thing u can do is either fill the bathtub for them so they have a big nice swimming area for an hour or put them on the floor for a good walk. P.S: they should be kept under supervision
so good luck with them and keep us posted about their weight program _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo
