A mesh screen? Screen material is not a good choice for iguanas for this very reason but you should also look at the root cause. Was there any change to his enviroment or diet or schedule? Does he have an adequate living area and is it heated and is the humidity correct? Does he have plenty of climbing and basking areas? Iguannas are very sensitive to change and change can actually cause them to lunge at the sides of their pen causung injury to their face.
First of all you need to make sure that the area is not an open injury or it can become infected. If it is an open wound clean the area the same as you would for a turtle, using betadine or nolvasan (I like betadine best) and using a good antibiotic ointment on the area the first day, after that just clean with the betadine as to much of the antibiotic inhibits healing.
