I'm thinking about moving my turtles (3 big RES) from indoor to outdoor since there's more room outside for them. However, it gets kind of cold at night since its winter...it can go down to the mid-30 degree farhenheit. In the summer, it gets up to the 90-100 degree farenheit mark. (I live in Southern CA) Will this tempertue greatly affect my turtles? I don't want them to freeze or boil outside Exclamation

about how old are ur turtles? personally, i do suggest outdoor setups if u're sure they'll be fine and secured outside (be careful from cats, dogs or anything that can reach them..even birds!!). anyways if u're planning to do it, let it be until winter is over so they have enough time to get used to it and hibernate next winter (if they're old enough)..

good luck Smile

I have the exact same question. I live in SoCal as well and was thinking of putting two RES that were given to me because my niece no longer wanted to care for them. We do have cats and hawks in the neighborhood so what I plan on doing is having a center island so the turtles can come out of the water w/o the danger of cats or coons. But with this setup, they will not be able to hibernate, so will they adapt to the cold winter nights?
Also, I have children and I've been reading up on turtles that they carry salmonella. How much at risk are my 3 & 6 year old? TIA

They are about 7". They've been outdoors for the past few days and seem ok but haven't eaten anything.
