I came home last night to 4-5 eggs in my painted turtle’s tank. Ignore my ignorance, but she (who I thought was a he! =) ) has no interaction with any other turtles. Can females reproduce on their own? I feel so silly, but I am not well-versed on turtle breeding, as I wasn’t intending on it!

All of the eggs were broken. Will she lay them again? What should I do with them?
Thank you very much for your help!

Female turtles will lay unfertile eggs. Just throw them away. And yes she can and many do it again.

welcome to the board Smile

if u are able to keep all those baby turtles coming (space, expenses, time, care, and many other costs..) then get a male but it's really not recommended at all cz breeding needs a lot and normal turtle owners can't hold all that. leave it to breeders Smile

Gotcha-- thanks for your advice, I just got so excited when I saw eggs, I didn't know what to do next! Smile I think she's just fine by herself and we'll keep it that way.. as much as I'd love some little turtle babies:)

i know what u mean..baby turtles are so cute and irresistable but they need a lot of caring and have big chances of getting fatal diseases Exclamation
