Hello!
I am also new to the site.
I have two RES that I rescued from an ignorant roommate back in college (about 5 years ago). She thought they were cute and bought them from a roadside vendor without realizing the extensive dedication and money these cute little guys cost! After seeing how she was keeping them, in a tiny plastic prison with filthy water and no real basking site, I convinced her to let me take over their care- she was definitely happy to be rid of the "burden."
Now, five years later, I have upgraded their habitats numerous times (poor college students get their money in spurts, lol) and they are finally in a 55 gallon aquarium and boy are they happy! I had been researching the best option for their habitat and had to think of budget constraints as well. I am so happy to have them in a space big enough for them to really enjoy. The next step is to buy them some feeder goldfish within the next few days to really get their minds active!
I hope I didn't talk everyone out but I am so happy to find a place to share experiences and ask questions about these little guys.
I am going to attempt to attach a picture or two- hopefully I do it right!

Hi, glad you guys like the tank
The pictures were taken before I had set up the heat lamp and seperate filters. The main filter is a Magnum 350 deluxe, it works pretty well for the turtles. The secondary filter is a Regent Aquatech 30-60 gallon filter, the one that came with the 55gallon setup, lol.
Hopefully they will last forever and keep the boys clean! |
