| how much approx. does it cost to outfit2 red eared sliders? what are the bare essential?I live in Boston and dont think it's possible to keep the water 85F is that the necessary temp.? do I absolutely have to see a vet?I want to keep my turtles happy but I'm only a kid. |

Turtles are expensive. So are dogs. So are cats. It's just they way things are. Do you need a vet. Only if they get sick. I know it's got to be cold there. Your gonna need a water heater. Your gonna need lights. Your going to need to get a decent filter. Those are the three main things. Plants, rocks, that's all for looks and can wait. But you have to keep 'em warm. Can't. Well try to keep the room warm then. I know what it's like not have money and not have a car to go get the supplies. Try your best and if you have questions. Let us know..

I was lucky enough to find a 55 gallon aquarium from a friend at work (for free ) and that's one of the most expensive things for the turts, but a lot of ppl have big rubbermaid containers for their turts and that's a less expensive option. You'll still have to have a water heater, UVa and UVb lighting, and a basking lamp. Like Ed said, if you can't afford the water heater yet, try to keep the room warm, it's very important.
