i have a turtle his name is squirt... doing very well had him since he was about the size of a toonie, he is now about 5 inches long and very happy..
in the net month or 2 i want to put him in an 80 gallon tank, he is in a 20 gallon now, and i was wondering would that be fine for him/her to live in forever?,Cause i don't want to buy one and have to buy a bigger one, i was thinking it would be...
And what veggies are the best for him/her so i can get a bunch for him/her???
I read somewhere that there's a lettuce that is poisen to them so i don't want to go out and buy it...
Thanks

So far I found out:
They can eat vegetables but not iceberg lettuce, spinach, or brocolli. Also they'll eat cantalope, strawberries, and bananas but bananas aren't very good for them. So far I feed mine Reptomin, but I'm going to get him some veggies today and see if he likes them. If you buy veggies make sure you only get the amount that he can eat before they go bad. Or get frozen vegetables and thaw them.
For the aquarium they need 10 gallons or water per inch of turtle, so it depends on how big the turtle is going to get. And I guess that depends on whether it's a boy or a girl.
I hope that helps. |

Cutie, you can also buy anacharis and sword plants to put in the tank for squirt to graze on. My turtle LOVES anacharis and it makes it easier for me to not overfeed her! (She had a little weight problem, but I don't tell her that! ). I learned too that they like corn , but be sure to take the outside layer off, & corn might help keep their colors vibrant. I think kale and romaine are the best "lettuce" for them, definitely don't give them spinach, it blocks their calcium absorption. Good Luck! _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

Anachris is awsome but expensive. After a year or two buying a couple of bushes every two weeks ends up costing alot. I've gone to just green leaf and romain. It last longer and they don't eat as much. I'd spend 6 dollars on 3 bushes and wake up the next morning and they'd be gone. Lettuce is cheaper. It's fine if you have baby's though. Check out http://www.thatpetplace.com They have good prices on bulk plants.
This is how I get when I spend too much money on My turtles

Yep, that's the one, the romaine we eat. I just put a leaf or two in at a time and Snappy grazes on it as she chooses. _________________ shade & sweetwater! |

I wash the lettuce real good in cold water. Then I rip open the whole "head and place them in a giant zip lock bag. Then when it's time for a snack I take a leaf and just rip the sides of and break it into pieces. If you have a baby turtle then you don't have to go crazy cause a little goes a long way. I take the whole middle and bottom parts and throw them away. As simple as that. _________________ Where Ever You Go There You Are.
