I need a water heater asap...I have a little RES and he's too cold..lol...I am in Ontario Canada..so not sure the differences in what store sell...but I need something relatively cheap and small as I dont want it to take up his water! I also would really like something good obviously cuz I dont want him to hurt himself or be able to change the temp or break it easily....

I could really use some advice on some good brands/types to look for as I need one fast but dont have much for money at the moment! thanks!

Mine has no problem with tis. You should be able to find this at any fish shop just let him know the size of tank and find one adquatly sized.

Hi Makyura. I recommend using the Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth. It's shatterproof and it is also coated with another layer of thin rubber. The thermometer in this heater is pretty accurate. I'm not sure what size your tank is but the max it'll cost (online that is) without including shipping is about $20 for bigger tanks. It's probably the best bang for your bucks. But if you choose something otherwise, at least get it shatterproof. I bought the Acura 1000 before and it cracked after 3 weeks of use. I believe my turtle Survivor cracked it with his shell when he was battling his self image. Heaters don't take a lot of swimming space because it is usually only around 1 inch thick but long (depending on the wattage). I don't know what CeCe meant by stainless steel as I've never heard of a heater like that before. Maybe CeCe also meant shatterproof.

Tip: It usually says it in the instruction manual but it's best to put the heater in the tank and wait 15mins until you plug it in. This lets the thermometer take the temperature in the tank. Do the same when you take it out of the tank. Unplug it and wait 15minutes before doing so. Although the last part isn't a real issue for shatterproof heaters, it's better to be safe than sorry.

thanks!!! I'll have to keep a look out though as I dont have a credit card to shop online..and was lucky to have found a place online that takes money orders that is here in Ontario for the UVB bulbs...unfortunately every site I find is usually in the USA..so everything is like double priced for me...

I am hoping to get one one within the week..as it was freezing rain today so my mom couldnt check them out....I will def look for shatter-proof and such...as even though Kalas is tiny...I dont want any chances...

Thanks again everyone! any advice here is welcomed as I've never even looked at water heaters before! There was one in the pet supply store..but it was really tall..not long..so would've been too tall for the water height right now..

Makyura, are your turtles outside or inside? I'm not quite sure how the well the heater that I've recommended works outdoors. I was just assuming that you have an indoor setup for your turtles. If you're from Canada, you can try ordering from BigAls since they have a US website as well as a Canada website. Their prices are pretty good and cheap. They also accept money order, checks, and other types of payments. I listed the link below. Hope you can find something good there.

P.S. They have the Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth I mentioned under promotion and they ship pretty fast; at least for me it did.

Thanks for the link!!! Glad to know they have a Candian online store as well!! I will have to show my mom then as I'm really low on cash lately...

Ah, no..dont worry..little Kalas is in a giant rubbermaid "tank" in my room....definately not outdoors as we dont have any spot for a set up outside..and everything is a little froze right now anyway..hehe

Thanks so much again!!!

*Edit*

I am looking through the heaters now...I see Aquarium Systems Visa-Therm Stealth?? They look like they are tall though?? Is there a certain wattage I should look at? I didnt know there was wattage when it came to heaters....

Aquarium Systems Visi-Therm 50 Watt Heater
>>I was looking at that one..it or the 25W one...cuz I dont know about wattage in heaters as I said....tho it looks like they have suction cups to keep them from floating maybe?? My filter at the moment has that and they dont stick to the tote...so I have it tied down to a rock...would it be alright to do that with the heater??

thanks again!!!

Scince your using a rubbermaid instead of a tank (Nothing Wrong with that) I would suggest to maybe just have the water heater dangle in the water as best you can. Some heaters are not submersible, I know that the one that the sell at walmart is. Just try to keep that in mind. It should be fine. If I recall yours is still a baby so all that glass cracking stuff should pertain to you till they get older. If you have the abillity to hide it with rocks then that is cool too. Remember if your on a budget like me, you want to try to get bang for your buck. Can you buy a 10 dollar heater, Yes, but your going to have to upgrade later. I aways tell people that it is not good to buy things twice. And do it within your budget as best you can.

thanks!! Your pics are cute!!

Ah yes, Kalas is still only about an inch..very young still...I want the heater to be submersible...The water is too far from the top to hang one into it....the one I was looking at on that site is submersible...only $40 with shipping roughly...so not too expensive I suppose and apparently good...but I will also look in at walmart and the pet stores near me to see if they have something similiar and possibly cheaper...

I dont mind upgrading one day..I know I'll have to with the filter eventually...but for now, yes...something good and long lasting...

Hey, I'm not sure how big is your enclosure but I have linked you the Marineland Visi-Therm that you need (ranging from all wattages/measurements) and I have included what wattage fits for what gallon tanks. The heater does include suction cups where it attaches to the glass but it really isn't necessary. You can just dump the heater in your rubbermaid. It won't burn or hurt your turtle in anyway. The heater will also automatically shut off when it hits a certain temperature that was set to and it will shut down automatically if it detects that it's out of the water. However, it must reach a minimum of water (tells you) which isn't really deep. I have the 250W one in a 55Gallon tank and I'm guessing approximately 12inches of water give or take is the minimum. So anyone less than the 250W should require less water than that. You can leave it hanging horizontally or vertically; your choice. Hope that helps.

That's about a 33G tank which really isn't so big. But since your turtle is still small, I guess you can upgrade later. So the 100Watts to 150Watts Visi-Therm is for you but since you mention you only fill half, it might be better to get the 100W and add some more water or something. Please remember that if you choose to buy another brand/kind, it varies. Don't assume that the details for this Visi-Therm Stealth heater is the same as others. I'm not really sure about the price for Canada. It seems kind of expensive compare to the US. I listed the price and converted it from CA and there's a huge price difference. The reason why I told you about that site was because it's usually cheaper but I'm guessing it's only for the US. I'm not sure if that's consider expensive in CA for a heater but compare to the US, it's pretty expensive although it is a excellent heater. You can try going to http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ and calling them and ask about the shipping price. It might be cheaper since they charge about the same price for the heaters as BigAls. I'm hoping that they'll charge maybe like $10US max for shipping to Canada and they most likely will charge you the same US price in that site. If they do, then you'll probably pay $25US max which is $29.11CA. That would save you some money hopefully. Good luck.

BIGALS (CA) w/o shipping fee
100W = $29.19US
150W = $30.91US

BIGALS (US) w/o shipping fee
100W= $14.19US
150W= $13.49US
