I think I've read somewhere to clean plants with vinegar. Is this true? I just got two turtles.. They are sooOOoo cute! I got them about a month ago. A lot more maintence then I imagined but I love it and them. Im going to post pictures soon, but my tank is kind of boring right now. Just has the basics.. good basking area, big rock for them to hide behind, filter and heater. Everything is great so far. I did have little rocks on the bottom but I've read some many times about them eating them, so i took them out. Then I put huge rocks in and my mud turtle kept trying to hide, and so he'd push them around making a TON of noise at night lol.. So I took those out. Im afraid he might move them and crack the tank as well.. So... now its a bare bottom tank hehe... But im cleaning some plants to put in there to make it prettier
PS one of my turtles is a mud turtle (the bigger one) and the other is a red ear slider..
Crush is the mud turtle and squirt is the red ear slidder.. hehe ! Pictures soon to be posted.
I love this site btw, so helpful! |

Hi
Not sure about the vinigar however i just rinse my plants in water (tap) and that seems to work fine? HMMM plants wont be a problem soon as you'll notice your turtle eating it!

welcome to the board kelly, crush, and squirt
nice mix u've got btw lol ur turtles sound cute and the one moving the rocks around has an artistic view. i don't think he was intending to hide as much as he was trying to re-decorate the tank. well u might not have the same taste noisy yeah but that's cute so if u can replace them with something less noisy they'll enjoy it
i guess the plants u mentioned are artificial but still they might try nibbling on them so cleaning b4 putting them is better. yep vinegar is fine but wash them well after cz u know how it tastes
so good luck with ur little guys and can't wait to see the pix _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Welcome Kelly, crush and squirt (our turtles names also, and there's another member with those names too)
I think Dixie is right, sounds like he enjoys decorating his own tank.hehe
We buy sword plants at the pet store and our lil guys LOVE them. It does get messy but atleast I know if they get hungry inbetween meals they have something to nibble on.
Good luck with whatever you do!
p.s.
I'm anxious to see pics too! |
