well. if this doesn't beat all...
i think i mentioned i bought my two 'red bellied cooters' online. well... their bellies have never turned red.. nor have they been red... and.. they're not as sociable as red bellied cooters should be. plus their shells are growing a tad bit different..
so...
i researched some species.. and through careful observation of them.. and my own turtles.. i've come to the conclusion that i have peninsula cooters... (the site sent me the WRONG TURTLES!!! but i love my babies no matter what they are)
now i looked up the species online, and all i can find are pictures of them. really really HUGE pictures...
does anyone have any clue if they're to be treated/cared for differently then red bellied cooters, or RES? or how big they get?
i really don't care how big they get, i just want to be prepared. luckily.. i just got a 55 gallon tank from an aunt for a christmas present, and that will be good now while they're all babies still.
i also got permission from my mom to build a turtle pond this summer... (we have 4.5 acres of land, plus live in the southern us..) its' going to be built in a fenced in area (screen fenced ceiling too.. keeps bugs out!) so these guys are going to be treated like kings. ^__^ so that will take care of everyone. i just need help on their sizing so i can make a bigger pond if necessary. (dont worry, when it's winter - it doesn't snow here- plus they're going to have an indoor kiddie pool habitat) _________________

wow that's a shock somehow. anyways there's nothing to worry about. peninsula cooters grow only 1" bigger than red-bellies so it should be ok
