they are semi-aquatics and need water for almost everything

1- without water they'll dehydrate and die
2- they don't have saliva and therefore can't eat out of water
3- they extratct their wastes in water and they need it in a way or another to help them do it
4- they also need water for many other things that neither i nor u know..

that's why u're not supposed to leave them like that outdoors. ur backyard sounds more like a place for a box turtle not RES's

Hmmm, well I see from your web site that you are 16. Would it be possible to have a parent go to this link to see what your turtles need for a setup?

Here is for an outdoor setup http://www.allturtles.com/setup/outdoorWT.php

Here is for an indoor setup

A RES is an aqautic turtle. That means they must have water to live. If you can not properly care for them please find someone who can.

um.. im really worry about my big female turtle.. i think she have a baby but cant lay egg because i thought she have egg and then dont so i keep bringing her in and out of the house.. i kept digging her out of her "nesting" area i think.. because its get cold were i live at night so im worry but then i read some of the thread about breeding im really worry i think she really does have a egg and i dont have room for her to dig in the water.. should i leave her outside and let her digg for her nesting area and just leave her there.. but u guy say they goign to die if they dont have water what should i do.. and usually she dig and never come out.. sometime i dont even know if she's in that place or not.. and i been noticing her backside is gettin pretty big.. and poop alot..

please go get a water area for ur turtles. don't have money for an aquarium? no big deal get a rubbermaid. still expensive? get a plastic tub. also too much? get a kiddie pool. no money at all? dig a big hole for them and fill it with water or give them to someone who can take their responsibility. nobody wants them? release them and let nature do its work. it'll know more if they deserve to live or only suffer this life.

u're torturing her btw and if she doesn't find the right place to lay the egg (if it has any) she'll have serious problems and die. take her to the vet and if u're not planning to help them, plz let them alone safely. i swear if u were anywhere near i would've taken them but i live something like 3-4 continents away and that makes me in the other part of the world. ship them to me if u can!!!

One very important thing I think that was not mentioned is pestisides. If there are any on the lawn, well now there on the turtles. Your better off letting them walk around in your room. Not for hours. But for 20 minuets it won't kill them and give them a nice break Smile

anything is better than what they're roaming in now. if u have a rubbermaid go get it and fill it with water. get another smaller one or even a tupperware and fill it with soil then put it inside the big one like a basking area or something. even if it messes everything. just do it for the sake of the turtle cz she'll be suffering by now. and keep it clean for her..is she eating btw?

OMG! If you have a tank and no filter, please put them in there... you'll have to change out the water... .A LOT! but it would be so much better for the turts!! Dixieee's right, you're torturing her, please take everyone's advice and get your turts in the water ASAP.

provide a nesting area so she could lay them. something to dig in..

yes turtles do shed skin and i don't know about the nails. i guess it's over there's nothing to do..don't know if they grow back that's why usually they need trimming
