welcome to the board
hmm i read somewhere that it is a rare case and usually such turtles come from a parent who didn't have eyes in the first place too. consider it as a blind turtle, can u take care of it? u know it needs special attention.. _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

listen, u're so great and the turtle is lucky to have someone who would care for it
i guess it will be ok after a while until it learns where the basking area is and could get on by itself. separate it during feeding time. hand-feed it cz even if it doesn't see food, they have a good sense of smell.
good luck with it and keep us posted always _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

It "might" be a good idea to make some sort of noise consistently before you feed....that way the turtle will be conditioned to know that the food is there. Just a suggestion???
He will adapt and he will be fine.....just don't go changing the aquarium set up or routines.
Good Luck!!! |

This site sells them for more then regular turtles. As long as it finds it's food I guess it's fine.

wow contact thanx for the site but i really think that those ppl are sick! it's not fun at all to refer to them as "CUTE! CUTE!" and sell them for such prices! i bet that people who buy them as "exotics" are even sicker
anyways i agree with Turtlefever not to change the setting a lot. i read once about someone raising a blind turtle and he taught it that everytime he taps on its head, it's feeding time so the turtle opens its mouth and he drops the food in. i don't know how smart could a turtle be to learn that but i believe in something (either in humans or animals), when God takes something from a living thing, that creature is blessed with something else. maybe ur turtle has a stronger sense of smell and can tell when food is coming better than turtles with eyes. good luck with it, i'm sure it'll be fine with u _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

they have a site that actually sells turtles like that. they call it a 'morph'.. but i don't see why someone would deliberately (sp) breed an animal that couldnt' see.. i think it's a bit unfair.
i'm really sorry about your turtles. but like ms. dixiee said, they definately need special attention.
you should probably feed them seperately so you can keep a close watch on the one without the eyes to make sure it's eating. probably, feed it in a smaller container too so it doesn't have to go as far in search of food.
i feel sorry for the little guy =/ good luck with it though! it's great to hear that you'd stlil take care of it even though it has an issue.
EDIT: okay, i agree with the other two and don't change the setup around. if you're going to feed, maybe feed him in the same tank, but DEFINATELY take the other one out so the eyeless one can at least eat. _________________

I hope that your blind baby is doing well, animals are amazing creatures, I'm sure the little one will adapt better than expected. -btw I do agree that it is cruel to breed for this trait, you wouldn't do it to a person so why you would do it to an animal is beyond me. -Definitely keep the setup the same and feeding seperately is a very good idea. _________________ 2 big RES, 1 Flowerhorn Cichlid, 1 Cockatiel.
