I just moved my two turtles (one small one large) to a beautiful new habitate I created for them. It is a 20 gallon tank. One end is a beach with a heat lamp, feeding area and a nice little tree for cover. I have a large climbing cave rock thing and filter in the rest of the tank. Neither turtle will climb on the beach or rock. I am afraid they will get fungus on their shells. The old habitate was 10 gallons and had a floating dock that they used all the time. Have I confused them? Are they ever going to use the beach? What can I do to help them get used to the beach etc.
Thanks |

welcome to the board don't worry ur turtles are acting so normal. the change in environment made them feel unsafe again, exactly like when u bought them the first time give them some time and they'll get used to it.
good luck _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Sounds like a nice setup, but a 20 gal for 2 turtles? How big are they? You might want to put the little one back in the smaller tank and give them each some room. Also turtles eat in the water. They need to in order to swallow their food. I tried that with my first little guy. I was trying to cut down on the mess.
Other than that ditto what Dixieee said. |

| Thanks so much for the encouragement. You all are great and so supportive on this message board. Yesterday a co-worker brought in a little guy she got from her brother(he wasnt taking very good care of him) so now we have three. Yertle is tiny, Fertle is medium sized and Mertle is big. I'll take pics and post. They seem to be doing a little better today. I have a million questions, hope you all don't get sick of me. Just a caring mommy! |
