Welcome to the board. I only have experience with Red Ear Sliders, looks like your interested in a land turtle- from the web site- and so I can't put too much input on that. I can however tell you that I think turtles in general are very fun pets, they all have unique personalities and are so much fun to watch. There is a section on this site that shows both aquatic and land setups.
Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll love your turtle! Good luck and I'm sure someone else on this site will be more informative than I. _________________ 2 big RES, 1 Flowerhorn Cichlid, 1 Cockatiel. I will alway hold a place in my heart for Daphne, my albino RES. |

welcome to the board u did something that people rarely do, think b4 getting the turtle. cz when most turtle owners got their turtles they thought of nothing but "they're soo cute!!" and bought them at the moment but later u either get so attached to ur turtle or become fed up of it quickly. we're from the 1st group in here so if u need to ask anything, share stories, pix, or anything about turtles, u're in the right place
i'll look up for some sites that sell turtles in UK and post them as soon as i find any. good luck _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| i dont know of any online sites, im sure someone on here might - have you tried your local pet shop? i dont know about your area, but where i live you can usually find some really great deals in the newspaper too. i hope someone will correct me if im wrong, but i have read you want a 20 gallon tank for an adult turtle, and an extra 10 gallons for each additional adult turtle. if you go with an aquatic animal, you want to provide them with enough water to swim, as well as a dry area for them to bask (so you can imagine this will need to be a good-sized tank). i made the mistake of buying a habitat that does not allow me to use a water heater or a filter. i have to change the water 2-3 times a day, and run a continuous heat bulb (different from my basking bulb, this one can run at night and not flood the tank with light). im hoping to be able to afford a better habitat in the near future. but like i said, i dont know of any websites, i buy what i need from my local petsmart. what i do know is that these are just a few things that need to be considered when building a home. |

catel why do u have to change the water 2-3 times?? are they that messy?! i don't have a filter either but i change water every other day now since the setup is much bigger than b4 and u know it's not an easy job
the rule says u need 10 gallons of water / inch of shell length and if u have more than one turtle, make that calculation for each and add the sums to come up with the size needed. usually this is too much and really difficult to stick with but it's the best case to guarantee ur turtle will be "top happy"!!
here are some sites i found:
www.petplanet.co.uk
www.petspyjamas.co.uk
www.uknetguide.co.uk
and check this one for another list http://www.shopsafe.co.uk/petgeneral.htm
hope they help, good luck _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

thank you dixiee some really cool sites.
This does require a lot of planing as i want a fully healthy and happy turtle(s). I don;t agree with buying something and then not careing about it. thats why i am trying really hard to make the right choices with all your help. Planning for an aquatic turtle is prooving hard tho, lol. So keep the suggestions coming..i couldn't do this without your help. |

anytime
taking care of a turtle isn't that hard if u provide the right setup from the beginning. in that way, u'll be avoiding all problems and troubles except for time needed to clean and feed them. feeding actually is a fun time for both of u if u know how to enjoy it _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

they ARE that messy!!
I'm telling you, they poop A LOT and then kick it around, and butt it with their heads like they're playing soccer, and then the water gets cloudy...my husband has been telling me I don't need to change the water so much, but everytime I look at it, I can't help it - I see all that poop flying around and I have to change it. And then as soon as I put them in the clean water, what do they do? you guessed it... |

you cant blame them for pooping right after you clean the water, i mean, think aboout it: would you rather use a clean toliet or a messy one??? _________________ I'm back! Hope I can help...
