Ive been reading on RES for the last 24 hours. Have 3 pages of notes on aquarium setup. After a little rain spell found this little RES and want to make a good home. we have a 55 gal tank w/ an Oscar, a 10 with 2 Gouramis and a large comet goldfish and a 20 gal tank we keep feeder fish in for the Oscar. Being we've had all of the above for quite some time I think i can succeed w/ the RES (SPEEDY, I named him) I do not know if i can convert the 20gal to a home for Speedy and still keep the feeder fish in. Most are too big for Speedy to eat I believe. i just wanted to be sure that lowering the level of water to include the basking area for him, would still be okay for the fish. Any advice. ?
thanks and this is the best site i found in my research |

For a while it would work. You will need to get a bigger filter. |

Yeah this site rocks japan.
I guess to better help we'd need to know what kind of filter you have, how big the RES is. Either way what Desseygirl says is true. 20 gallons is only going to last so long.

welcome to the board
u don't have to lower the water level, u can get a floating dock as a basking area instead _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I ended up going and buying the tank and everything to get started. Think speedy likes the water better than the rock. Everytime I put him on the rock, he RUNS off of it back into the water:)
He's very small, so maybe this tank will last a while. 20L
Also, I dont see ever see him eat, and when i go back to check to see if he did when i wasnt looking, the food all seems to still be there? is this normal? |

yes his behavior is very normal. new turtles especially hatchlings usually don't eat for the first couple of weeks bcz they're scared. that's why they don't bask too and are underwater most of the time. try tuna with him, they love it _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo
