The Bigger, The Better. Check out the classified's. You can alwatys find a good deal. Pet Supermarket (Sometimes) Has a good deal on tanks. Walmart might two depending on budget. But I would start with the local paper.

And, depending on whether there is an active section in your area, Craigslist is a great source -- http://www.craigslist.org.
I got all my turtles and my fish through there, mostly free. I got an awesome first setup -- 40-gallon breeder tank with stand, mesh top, light hood, canister filter, gravel vac etc., nearly new -- for less than the price of the filter alone at retail.
My latest tank, a 110 high with stand, cost me $100, and he threw in a Fluval brand-new-in-the-box canister filter. I also got a 55 long with wooden cabinet, hood, lights etc. for $60 that I ended up selling to someone else because it wasn't big enough.
My fish live in a 20-gallon high with heater, filter, full hood, lights and extra bulb, gravel vac, nets, decor, gravel, chemicals -- really, everything but the fish, for $60 off Craigslist. (Fish were free from someone else, also from CL.)
Today there was a 20 gallon long with some equipment going for $15 in my section! I thought about getting it just in case, but I reined myself in, LOL.
Good luck! If there were stock in CL I would buy it, as I guess you could tell! |

craigslist sounds great. i checked it many times and i wish it went international
what do u have now? a 10-gallon? i say wait for some more time until u can get even bigger than the 20 gallons. unless it's a matter of space, biggest is the best cz u wouldn't have to upgrade every now and then and be left off with more expenses and so many similar-sized setups _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| Turtles grow so fast I don't advise wasting time or money on small tanks unless you have it to spend of course. I sugest a rubbermaid setup and save the money for a good tank. 50-75 for a male and 75-100 for a female. |

I agree- the bigger the better. Save your money until you can go all out, and if you think it's going to be a while like stray said rubber maid is very effective.
I got my 55 gall off of craigslist for $40, great deal. _________________ 2 big RES, 1 Flowerhorn Cichlid, 1 Cockatiel. I will alway hold a place in my heart for Daphne, my albino RES. |
