hello, im new to this site. and i just bought 2 RES turtles.
i have them in a 20 gal tank. filled half with water. with a peice of drift wood where they can bask

well anyways my question is. how do you go about starting to gfeel them? they are really shy right now when ever i go to the tank they jump into the water. i read lots about them. but im still cunfused. do i just put the food in and leave them? should i take them to a smaller tank and feed them so its easyer for hem to find it?(for now) they are 1 month old.

im sure once they get use to me they'll come to the glass when its feeding time. but for now how do i get them to start eating?

thanks

Don't worry all turtles are pretty shy at first, they'll get over it. If your worried that they're not eating (and I'm assuming that they are pretty small) put them in a little rubbermaid container with the food and let them sit for a while to give them time to eat. I suggest keeping them near a heat sorce such as their basking lamp so that they don't get too cold, but not too hot, monitor their temp. This way you can see if they're not eating or if they are and your just not seeing it. I suggest feeding them seperate so your sure that both of them are eating. If their not eating right away it's normal, they just need some time. If they still havn't warmed up after about a week try soaking the pellets in tuna juice. If they still won't go for it offer just straight tuna. If you get them eating tuna just slowly wean them back onto the pellets by soaking them and mixing it in the tuna.

Good luck! Wink
