I think my turtle hates me. Ive had him for 2 days and he hisses at me and hides when I come around. The lady at the pet shop and my friends say they are suppose to be affectionate. Do I have a defective turtle?

Another thing is that he wont eat. I have given him some floating food sticks and put in some guppies but nothing has happened. My friend says he probably wont eat for a couple days...is this true?

PLZ HELP!! Sad Question Twisted Evil

If someone came and picked you out of your house and moved you to another house would you feel like eating and being affectionate???? Exclamation
Give your turtle some space and some time to adjust and he/she will start to get used to you and will get a little more lovable!! Razz

Well I can relate to what you are saying. I just got Ike a week ago and he is still really scared of me. He hides as soon as I walk into the room!! Poor little guy!!! All I can do is hope that he will stop hating me soon!

My last turtle was a mean old hisser too....but after a while he started liking me and even enjoyed getting his head scratched!!!

Hey Gang,
Since we are on the "bonding" subject I need help. My baby RES Oliver, still hides from me, refuses to stick his head out and I've had him for 4 weeks now. I know it's still early but my Dyrtle used to do that to me too when she was alive and I had her for almost seven months before she died and she was still running from me, she would stay still when I pick her up that sometimes I used to think that she was dead. I guess I bought it on her huh?
What am I doing or not doing that my turtles are scared of me? Help Embarassed

One of mine still jumps off the basking platform when someone comes into the room, even after 3 months. But when I pick her up to take her out to feed her, she is really feisty -- tries hard to bite me and squirms a lot. So what I am saying is that they are all individuals -- make sure they are healthy and have what they need, and just enjoy their different personalities.

If you have a shy one, act calm and quiet around it, and maybe it will come out of its shell.

Both of my turtles bask, but only one of them will stay on the basking area if I am around, the other will jump in the water as soon as I walk close by, the other will remain and sometimes will look at me to see what I am doing, the other will kinda hang halfway on the ramp and continuously stare at me to see if I am coming close, I have had them for about a year now, so for those of you who have had yours for a few weeks, don't worry too much about them being affectionate, most of them aren't, they are more tolerating than affectionate. Confused Very Happy

yeah my turtles are so social and will come out almost to anyone but they freak out in some cases when someone gets into the room, u suddenly hear a splash and then tapping and the sides of the setup. i know then that they're in the process of being scared Smile i guess they are day dreaming in such cases and didn't expect any interruption
