HELP. I just bought a baby cooter and it slipped my mind to ask if the turtle would be fine in sulfur water. I dont even know, so i looked it up on the net and found nothing. and i dont want the little guy to die, so please help..any suggestions would help.

i know i should use tap, but MY tap water has sulfur in it! and i dont know waht to do..if i should put him in it or not. i heard you can let the water sit out for 24-48 hours and it should be fine, but i dont know. HELP

hmm didn't find anything yet but isn't sulfur used in turtle medicine? i don't think it's that bad but just in case, u may want to boil the water b4 using it until u're sure

yea thats what i was using from dollar store its $.49 per gallon

I havn't heard anything about sulfer, but usually the pet store sales anything and everything for making your water fish/turtle safe and I've never seen anything to remove sulfer from the water. Based on this I would say it's probably safe, but I'll check into it as well- maybe one of us can find something. Razz

Sulfur in water is not good turtles or not.

Well you learn something new everyday. Do you have alot of sulfer in your water, that sounds pretty nasty? Well even if you don't have alot I would still buy distilled water or filtered having read that.

And it's even older now...my contribution: first, it isn't sulfur that's in turtle care products, it's sulfA. Sulfa drugs were used to treat bacterial infections before the advent of penicillin and the other antibiotics. Don't know what the name means, but it isn't the same thing as sulfur.

As for having sulfur tap water, if it's safe for humans, I would think it would be safe for turtles. If the people in your community generally bathe in it, so can your turtle! And it may not smell so great, but from STK's Web reference, it doesn't seem to be harmful to drink, either.

Bottled water would be great, but frankly, having to go and get it and lug it home is a pain -- not to mention paying for it. Let's see -- I have a 110-gallon tank that has about 70 gallons in it now -- that's about $35 every time I drain it! No way! I for one would be reluctant to clean a tank that I had to pay a dollar for every two gallons to fill up again.

If the filter has some aeration in its action, maybe that would blow off some of the sulfur smell, as STK's reference may be saying. I would go with the tap water and bubble it.
