Since I lost my painted Turtle Myrtle (Ex-boyfriend took him)
Ive been dying to buy another one but I've had this fascination with capturing a wild turtle, but since it's getting late into the hot season I need to know please if it's still possible?
I also need to know where it might be possible to do such thing, because I know they are not standing next to road hitchhiking for a ride home
Please Help _________________ I loss my bestfriend "Dyrtle", now I only have Oliver to comfort me |

usually nobody suggests getting a turtle from the wild and keeping it home especially if there are any other turtles. u can adopt one if u want, there is a section for that in here _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Why would you want a wild turtle, unless you are quick, you probably won't be able to catch one, they aren't called sliders for nothing you know.
Besides, you never know what kind of parasites they are carrying with and in them. _________________

i would worry more about the slider not the softshell. they get along but softshells are aggressive turtles in general. do u already have one? they're not easy to take care of at all _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Softshells are very prone to getting shell rot, you have to keep the water pretty much immaculate, nothing that would cause shell rot, such as uneaten food, poop, etc. Also, as their name implies, they are soft shelled, and if a slider were to grab a hold of their shell, they would probably tear a chunk out of it and the shell would most likely get infected, I would not advise putting them both together. _________________

I am glad you decided against getting the softshell, I really don't like to read about baby turtles dying or getting injured by a bigger turtle.
I was reading a post on another forum from a friend of mine, she had gone out of the country for a few days and her friend was turtle sitting, her friend tried to contact her but couldn't, when she came back she found out that her bigger turtle had been on top of the small turtle, holding it down while it bit at it savagely, it was a sad story, the poor thing had to be put to sleep, the injuries were just too much for it. There wasn't much I could say exept that I was sorry she lost her baby turtle. _________________
