I'm interested to see what everyone uses to light their turtle's tanks.
Please list what bulbs you use and the wattage.
If you have a picture please post it. |

I use the super coil fluorescent bulb I believe that someone said that it gives off about 2 % UV, not sure, I will check when I buy another probably this month. Other than that, I use a ceramic heater for their heat source(no light). _________________

Ok after about 4 years and hundereds of dollars this is my take on the lightbulb situation especially with the winter months comming. I have been going through lightbulbls like toilet paper. And at $10+ a pop, it gets really expensive. They just explode or burn out. I try to keep it at 12/ on 12/off cycle. But it doesn't matter. Tried them all ESU, Exo Terra. You name it. I've bought it. The last straw was driving 30 min. to Huntsville (Another State, Mind you), Buying a new bulb and having it explode the very next moring. I've tried even changing the light socket itself. Nothing works. So here we go. 2 Clamp lamps. 1 With a Ceramic heater, and 1 with The florecent UV coil bulbs (Made for reptiles). I get the heat. I get my special UV light, I get low energy costs. And more importantly I get happy turltes. I don't know. Thats my 2 cents. If anyone has any other suggestions my wallet an mre are listening.

Hey toolshed, quick question for you:
How did you get your basking area to stay up using just sand and gravel? I use three huge rocks for my turtle's basking now, since when I stacked the gravel up, he just made it slide over and fall down. It would probably help if my turtle was smaller though. He's around the size of a softball.
I should snap some pictures of him and his tank sometime. _________________ I <3 my turtle, Toby. |
