I have heard that yes you can feed bloodworms some sites say only if they are frozen, then others say not at all because they could carry diseases? What's your opinion on the subject? Has anyone had any problems feeding bloodworms?

i personally don't like feeding them insects but from what i read, yeah i always bumped into "frozen" worms. i can't argue with that but turtles do eat such things in the wild and they don't come frozen out there

Yeah, I didn't think about them not being in their natural diet. So what about guppies vs. minows or gold fish? I heard guppies are best because of fat content? Anything on that? Question

in general, fish should be given as a treat only. i don't know which is better but any of the three are good and almost always mentioned together (the minnows and guppies) but the only reason gold fish isn't suggested is bcz it's expensive (and that's not everywhere)

hmm.. I don't think I've ever seen that fish in any pet stores. I'll have to ask around and see if I can get some. I'm sure my guys will love them. Thanks. Razz

I would like to start by saying that I think that my RES are the best pets ever! I have been trying a different variety of things for them to munch on and I have to say that the bloodworms are their favorite. i just bought them someBrine Shrimp (the dry ones) and my female went crazy for them it took my male a few moments then he start eating them. But if I had to chose I think I would go with the frozen bloodwoms Laughing

I have not seen anything so far that my babies will not eat. I am starting to see why I should have invested in a 100 gallon tank for them. Razz

I want to say that so far everything I have learned from this site has helped me and my babies Thank Alot

Just keep in mind that Brine shrimp, blood worms, and others are only treats and should be given sparingly, maybe once a month, turtles have been known to get too used to eating the shrimp and will not eat anything else, which is bad for them, there is a chemical in the shrimp that will mess with your turtle if that is all it eats. Very Happy

I agree, they love the shrimp and blood worms, but keep it to a minimum. Have you ever seen an overweight turtle? Very sad. Exclamation

although I have never seen a fat turtle how do you know when they are starting to get fat. My babies legs are fat and kind of look puffy coming out of their shell but I don't think they are fat.. Could they be Question

yes if u see like fats and flesh coming out from the feet holes this means they are over-weight

I hope that my babies are not over weight, but Bonnie is a little pudgy around her leg holes Clyde doesn't seem to have that problem, so what do I need to do to make sure she is healthy she is my baby and I don't want anything to happen to her Exclamation

Shoul I get some kind of diet stuff for her Question

don't worry they'll be ok Smile

for the chubby girl, cut down the # of pellets u give her and depend more on veggies. chop some carrots for her, they might live those better than lettuce. if they eat lettuce (romaine and NOT iceberg), give them that too. it won't harm the other guy to have some healthy food from time to time Smile

now for exercise, u can fill the bathtub for her and she'll have a good area to swim in for say 30min-1hr daily or something. another thing is putting it on the floor for a walk. just keep an eye on her cz u can never imagine how fast they could be unless u have seen one "slide" before.
