u can save up space by building the basking area on top using a box or another container like this
from www.austinsturtlepage.com
check this link too it has some good ideas http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Habitat/baskingspot.htm
i don't know how the nesting area should be. i posted a link in ur other thread, i think they mentioned something about that _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

they sell ramps especially for turtles but if u can't find them look around and u'll find something for sure. i don't know if that works but i saw plastic bookends that look somewhat like a ramp. _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

With the recent cardboard I put up I can't get a good veiw of the pplexiglass. Here is the best I could do.
I put up the cardboard to prevent the heat from escaping, It has helped a bunch. |

Wow! you have good eyes.
Yes the plexi is bent, I cut it to the length I wanted then heated up and bent it. I attached a plastic tube/bar to the edge right before it bends down to retain the gravel with tank safe epoxy. Also I took the dremel and notched a bunch or dimples in the ramp so they guys have traction to get up.
Now to secure it in place... Very simple. I drilled four small holes in the corners and attached nylon string and made hooks that go over the sides of the tank, fully adjustable and secure once gravel is in place. It gets caught bewtween the glass and plexiglass and kinda locks it in.
Any other questions? |

| i think i have my plan down as of now.....im going to keep the 2 RES in the 55 gallon....but i am going to raise the basking spot and make the basking spot a nesting site......hopefully the width of the tank and about 1-1.5 feet long.....and that will be composed of a sand, soil, and moss mix, i am hoping to get a fulval 304 1st before i set it up again...and i think ill be bending a piece of plexi glass to make a ramp the will run the entire length of the basking spot so it is easier to climb on to.....im hoping to do this sooner than later.....but i may be getting on a cheap design program to have ideas..... |
