hi I need help with my Red Ear Sliders..I have had them for about a year and 2 months. My female turtle seems to be not eating while the male turtle eats.. All she does is sit on top of the turtle dock and opens her mouth like every 20 seconds... In a way it looks like shes yawning.. when i put food near her she still ignores it (normally she eats it ). this has been on going since last tuesday which today is now 5 days... i dunno what to do.. all i can think of what i did was i added crayfish about a week ago about the same time she stop eating... however she did not eat the crayfish.. the male did and seems to be ok.. the crayfish had made a big mess which made the water yellow... i have changed the water since and now she still doesnt eat.. i dunno what to do... any suggestions would be appreciated greatly

Sounds like she may be developing a respitory infection. Can you give us soeminformation regarding your tank set up? Temps ect.

itz a 10 gallon with a combination of big rocks the size of golf balls to gravel... i have two filters for the heck of it and a turtle dock from ZooMEd with the suction cups .....

i could take pictures if u guys want... i can also take pictures when she opens her mouth or so call yawns like every 20-40 seconds...

i also dont ahve a water heater....and whenever she opens her mouth i see some pus around her mouth when she closes it...

the turtle is gasping for air. she's got a respiratory infection and has to be treated ASAP cz it is fatal. take her to a vet and don't wait any longer. i already lost one turtle and the other got the same disease so it's common between baby turtles. until u take her to the vet, put her in a seperate dry setup and increase the temps by a lightbulb. keep it at a good distance (not toooo close to burn her) and soak her for 30 min. in water every 2 hours or so.

this is my first time with RES...do u guys have any suggestions what they are gona do at the vet or what their gona give her..?i dont think i have time to bring her to a vet but i will try what u guys suggest

are they still young? their already 1 year and about 2 months old they look pretty big so i guess their young but u guys are the expert

ok i have taken her out and put her in a sort of tuba ware container....without water... under a lamp... now she doesnt seem to have any problems...when she was in the 10 gallon tank all she does is sit on the dock and does nothing and opens her mouth.. sometimes she jumps in the water and sorta goes toward the bottom of the tank and looks at the rocks...now shez in the tubbaware and shez trying to escape she doesnt seem to be opening her mouth as much at all now....

i hope she's getting better that way. most probably they'll give her a shot at the vet but am not sure cz they didn't let me see what they did to mine Surprised

i have put her back into the 10 gallon tank with my other turtle who seems to be doing fine and eating a whole lot.. shes starting to open her mouth again but not as much....im gona go buy a heater today and see how she is after....when i put her in a bucket with a lamp over it she seemed more active and didnt open her mouth at all... all she did was tried to escape but maybe thats why she closed her mouth

i suggest putting her back in the seperate tank. seems that ur turtle is still in the early stage (hopefully). btw, ask about enfloxil. it is good for that stage

yah i put her back into that seperate container with very little water... she seems to be more active and sticks her head out more often and tries to climb over and escape.... btw what is enfloxil and how and where can i get it and give it to her... is it like a liquid where i can put in the water with her?

nope i haven't met any vets in here but some are (were Question

) medical students. we got experience from the turtles we have Smile

+ reading and reading and reading and reading...

anyways, ok it sounds she's doing better in the seperate tank. enfloxil are medical drops that are given to the turtle when it has a respiratory infection in the early stages. i used it and i knew 2 or 3 other ppl who did and it worked. u might find it at good/big petshops or from a pet pharmacy but if u're planning to use it then just make sure it is ok. u might also want to call up a vet and ask

ok i went today and asked.. no one knew where i can find it and the workers there suggested a vet does anyone know where i can get it??? perhaps online?

ok i have looked all over the net to find enfloxil and still cant find it .. can someone tell me where they bought theres ... if i cant find any i might have to let it die... or end its misery for it

it come on a very tiny bottle about 5 ml (i think so). i knew that is gets produced in Mexico. that's the website on the bottle www.tornel.com but it's not english so i don't know how much it'll help.

oh ok then this is what i did:

first i clicked on the button "agregar a pedido" since u said pedido is an order Smile

u'll get then 2 buttons of which one (the smaller) is "back" (already translated when u put the mouse over it) and another button that says "revisar orden/ grabar pedido" (thanx to stray again Smile

). click on that one..

then u'll get three buttons. choose the 2nd "grabar pedido". u'll get something like a bill with a $0.10 added. scroll down and u'll find the form. i guess they are somehow clear like Dirección is obviously direction...

now good luck with it. btw, how's the turtle doing?
