I just got my turtles yesterday and they are red eared turtles -- ever since i got them they have been acting all funny- one keeps on climbing on top of the other!! is this bad or just normal? im afraid that the one on the bottom will drown or something that would be terrible! please help!
oh oh also- do RES bite? and im afriad to handle them- how should i do it? and can i let them walk around on the ground outside? _________________ ~The owner of Mauro and Lorenzo |

welcome to the board new owner
turtles like to pile over each other especially when they are basking so there's nothing to worry about all turtles bite so u should be careful when u handle them but it's not like they rip ur fingers off. they are supposed to bite when they don't feel safe but many turtles can't tell the difference between food and fingers especially if u hand-feed them. there's nothing dangerous in that. i got bitten a lot and my fingers are still there. u can take them out for walks and play with them too. in that way they'll get used to u and will stop hiding when u're around.
good luck and if u need anything u are welcome to ask _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Another thing is that they kick alot when you hold them, unless they are already used to you, so hold them securely but not so tight that you will hurt them and wash your hands after you hold them. _________________

ooh okay thats good to know thanks! about the tuna-- can it just be normal tuna? or does it have to be tuna bought from a petstore specifically made for turtles?
thanks! _________________ ~The owner of Mauro and Lorenzo |

Just your everyday, run-of-the-mill, normal tuna, nothing fancy. _________________

it even works better than the bad-smelling tuna they sell at petshops _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo
