Hope that helps you out a little. Try posting a picture of the little guy, or girl. _________________ Proud owner of 2 RES--George and Ringo

A map turtle looks nothing like a RES. A map is brown with thin lines all over its carapace and skin. Many map turtle species have protusions on its keel and also the posterior of the carapace is often serated (like a saw).
A RES has red around the ears and most green and yellow on its carapace and skin.
I hope that helps.
Try this address: www.parcplace.org/education/sparc/trip30.htm
Cheers. |

Actually they do look similar. Of course there are diffences, as there are in all types of turtles. And of course these differences are what help you determine what the turtle is. Res\'s have similar stripes, and the posterior of the shell also is \"like a saw\". Obviously a res has red around the ears, as I posted in my reply.
Anyway, brandy, here is another site that I like. It will show you pictures of several turtle species, so that you can compare, and determine what you have.
