|
|
Im just wandering if im feeding my turtle enough or too much. I feed her once a day aprox. 30-40 pellets of turtle food. She usually eats that up right away.
Also I want to know when I should start giving her veggies. Ive given her carrots/celery and she doesnt eat any of it yet. She's, I'm guessing, 6-8months old. Shes aprox. 3 inches long.
thanks for your help |

i don't know the size of ur pellets but maybe it's too much...the amount should be the size of her head WITHOUT the neck....every day for a hatchling and every other day for a juvenile and adult... keep veggies always available...one day ur turtle will eat them... _________________ i'm not a expert,i just try to help.... |

30-40 pellets/day??
my turtles are close to 1 year old and i feed them 2 pellets/day..i still find that they're getting overweight sometimes so i cut that down..i don't know how much u should feed urs but i'm sure this is too much..they'll keep eating as long as there is food so don't measure it that way
can u post a pic for ur turtle so we could tell if she's overweight? _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| I'll try to get a pic up as soon as possible. I figured I was feeding her enough because I've read that you feed as much as they'll eat in 2mins or so. And she downs 3 in one gulp sometimes. I've noticed she eats her droppings sometimes as well. |

the 2-min thing is not very reliable bcz i read that other ppl have "what the turtle can consume in 2 hours" instead and this differs a lot!! my turtle can eat as fast as urs but i don't feed her that much..i really suggest u cut that quantity down and keep some floating leaves in the tank instead..if she thinks what u're giving is not enough she'll eat the leaves _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Just about all turtles will eat until they throw up, that is mainly because of instinct, I think, they are opportunistic eaters, meaning that if they see food, they will eat it, because their instinct tells them that the next feeding will most likely be a long time away.
If you see that your turtle eats their poop, it may be that it needs more calcium in his/her diet. I haven't seen mine do that, but I cannot swear that they haven't. _________________

btw, i don't know if this is also common but my smaller turtle can't eat the pellets quickly so i break it into 2 for him and soak them in water..while he has one in his mouth, he'll keep putting others and swim around with them so that makes me wonder how could he tell if he will still be hungry after finishing the one he has..i don't know if u got my point but what i'm trying to say is that they'll never miss the chance of eating no matter what _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Sounds kinda what chipmunks do, they will put nuts in their cheeks to carry them to their den. _________________
