up until now ive used river rocks for my turtle tank. But I've noticed that the droppings and food fall down inbetween the rocks and the filter cant clean it because of the rocks in the way. So today while at Petco I invested in some riverbed sand. My question is, if anyone has tried this, does it clog the filter up? and any other suggestions pros/cons about this sand?

thanks for the input

i don't think putting sand in there is a good idea..the best thing to keep the setup clear but if u want it for decoration, maybe u can put a seperation between the rocks and the turtles..something like a clear plastic sheet that will block food and dirt or anything else from falling down

Another thing is that turtles like to dig and if they do they will kick up sand all around the tank and some of it will go into the filter, and if you have a mechanical filter, it might mess up the filter.

Interesting... I have 50/50 small rocks and sand. no problems with it. I do find sand in the filter from time to time but nothing to worry about.
Just make sure the intake is a couple of inches off the bottom.
