I know I posted to some old board that I collect frog eggs, wait for them to hatch and then feed my turtles the tadpoles. Several people said that that was cruel, but I countered that I live across the street from a swamp, and that I let some of the tadpoles become actual frogs. Well this year, I have let go 107 frogs so far. I haven't let any go today, so I'm not sure how many more I'll have (I think at least ten). There are also still a TON of tadpoles in my pool (which we haven't cleaned out yet this year, so that's kinda like little swamp), and there have been some frogs coming out of there that I didn't count. Anyone still not satisfied? And now that the turtles live in my room and not out on the porch, they haven't been getting as many tadpoles to eat. What do water turtles eat in the wild? Tadpoles. Sorry this is so long I just wanted to make myself clear.

I know that there are different types of feeder animals, I just read on another board that they fed their RES "Pinkies" ,baby mice, that was the first time that I had read of anybody feeding their turtle baby mice or rat, the only concern I would have with feeding tadpoles to turtles is that they may have toxins that may harm the turtle, I am sure that in the wild they will eat the tadpoles, but as to which kind of tadpole is beyond me, but if you are sure that they don't have any toxins that will harm your turtle, I really don't have a problem with it. Very Happy Very Happy

Yeah, I'm not a bid fan of the mice feeding to any animal. But I guess it's the same with cows, chickens, and feeder fish: they're bred to be eaten... Sad

Dude, I wouldn't worry about being judged. I'd be more worried about the health of your turtles. I'm sorry but that's the way life is. I don't get all teary eyed when I ask the guy at the shop for 3 bucks worth of ghost shrimp. All life is precious. Unless your a tadpole or ghost shrimp. Pinkies. I don't know. I even heard people feed their geckos pinkies. But tadpoles. I would just worry about where they came from and the chemicals in the water. Outside of that you could feed them an bandade wrapped around an anvil and you wouldn't make people happy. Just make you happy. And then your turtles will be happy. Feed them what ever you want dude.
