|
|
my sister and i are buying some of those sucky fish (i don't know their scientific name.. they just suck up poop) for our turtle tank, along with some snails and neighbors.
i have a RES and two RBC hatchlings, i was wondering if there were any marine plants that could live with them all and not be harmful.
i'm trying to provide an enviornment as close as possible to what they would experience in the wild. i think plants would be a good idea in the turlte tank because they would help with some of the chemicals the turtles produce, and would provide oxygen for the fish we're going to be putting in.
i'M particularly interested in Lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae (Micro Sword)
i need to know if it's toxic or not to turtles.. i know my RBCs will be the first things to eat at the plant since they attacked the plastic grass...
thanks! _________________

I have two links that you can check out for plants that are poisonous to turtles and tortoise:
http://www.turtlestuff.com/avoidthese.html
I'll post the other when I find it. _________________

thank you both for the links on the turtle page. that was extremely helpful.
i can't wait to get some plants in there for them.. instead of the ruddy plastic ones.. that seem to have become a snack. _________________

lettuce is good..actually it's one of the basic diets for turtles (i mean the most common) as long and it's not ice-berg lettuce..so that's strange where did u find it? _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

hummm.. they usually suggest feeding turtles romaine lettuce.
oh well.. i guess everyone's view poitns differ. i can't really get my turtles to eat romaine lettuce. i guess they're not interested in that right now.. maybe when they're older.
since you've got a hatchling, try offering it some carrots cut in chunks and drenched in tuna juice. i'm telling you, my little turtles love that and it's.. HEALTHY! _________________

My bigger turtles only seem interested in eating my.... FINGERS!! When I had feeder fish in there, they liked them for awhile, but then I guess they figured out the fish were too fast... Then I accidentally killed this fish.
They don't try to eat the plastic plants I have in the tank.... _________________ Kiwi and Luckey, the angels
