My male turtle(Mike) is always doing the mating dance to my female(truda), Usually she just moves out of the way, so how should she respond if she wants to mate? My turtles are big enough to breed.

Sorry not to answer your question but I have one on the same subject.

Is the Dance a Male only thing, When My turtles were small and about the same size we thought we knew which ones was a male and the other was a female.

The one we think is a female (Jan) is a good bit bigger than the one we think is a male (Go-Go), but it is Jan that put her front feet around head and does a dance in front of Go-Go.

Is this normal, or did I goof up naming them.. Rolling Eyes

I will tell you as soon as I figure out if my turtles are male and female Laughing Laughing

Both of my turtles do it, they face each other and start waving their hands.

I don't know what the proper way for the female to respond if she is interested, I would suppose that if she is interested, she will let him know, probably by doing the mating dance along with him, remember it takes two to tango Very Happy

I am so glad I read this today, because I thought something crazy was going,The one that is a female I think (earl) has been chasing the male around shaking her paws at him, so I was really getting confussed, thinking maybe earl really was a boy, since she is bigger than the male,I read somewhere on here that the females get bigger quicker, but she seems to have longer claws and tail, I think I'll try to get some better pics of them and post them to be sure, any who they sure are funny when they do that. Laughing

Normally the males have long tails and claws, the female's are short. Laughing We might be able to tell better when you post pics.... can't wait to see them! Wink

Earl is the one on the left , and I'm pretty sure she is a girl, she got bigger alot faster than randi, but has longer claws, I thought they were bigger because she was bigger, she is the one chasing the other around slapping at the face, but she is much more docile, when she was sick ,I did'nt have any problems giving her the shot in the paw, but randi is a hisser, and more difficult to give meds to, go figure, so I'm still confused, some things seem to fit while others don't.
