Now that I found out that my red ear slider is a girl , I was watching them tonight and she is putting her front paws out in front of her and waving them at my other slider and (he or she) is biting her paws. The female is 3 and the other one is only 8mths old, what do I need to do.
Thanks
Shannon

yeah someone might be hurt but as i said b4 there's nothing much to worry about..they're still young for actual mating (which is not b4 the female turns 4 yrs old) check this from http://www.allturtles.com/newbie/FAQs.php

"Q: My turtles do something weird with their front legs with each other. What are they doing?

A: Hey, this is a normal act. We have our own personal name for it, "the watussi dance!" Some people say its flirting. We start to do it more in the spring and summer. As you well know that is around the begining of breeding season."

and those are the turtles answering by themselves Smile

check this also about bites and scratches:

"Bites and scratches from other turtles either in feeding, domination or mating tactics is very common, as are getting scratches from aquarium decorations and rocks."

and the treatment is:

"Clean the injured area with clean water. Disinfect the area with iodine or betadine. Treat with Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazine), Neosporin or triple action antibiotic. Let turtle be dry for about an hour after treatment. Place in separate tank with clean water. You can add StressCoat for fish as it assists in the healing process. Treat this way daily for about 2 weeks or so."

from http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medinjuries.htm#Bites,%20Cuts,%20Burns%20and%20Scratches

i hope this makes things clear and u're not worried anymore,,good luck with ur flirting guys:)
