My dad and I got a 29 gallon Allglass tank, a stand, 100W heater, and a hood from a friend for free. Hooray! Much better than the 10 gallon tank Skippy was in since he is almost 2-1/2" long. We put in some large gravel so he won't eat it and moved the plants from the other tank. My dad got me a Whisper 40i filter to go with the 10i that I had for the 10 gallon tank and we will probably run both at the same time if the 40i can't keep up. We also moved his heat lamp and his basking area. Skippy seems much happier with more room to swim.
I want to use the strip light fixture with a Reptisun bulb (I thought he was getting enough UV light from his heat lamp but I found out it was only UVA). I have the tank about 2/3 full so there is about 6" between the water level and the hood. The light says not to use it over open water but if I put glass between the bulb and the water Skippy won't get the UVB from the bulb. What does everybody else do for this?

They make a screen for the reptile tanks, which is pretty much what a turtle tank would be like, exept that there is water in a turtle tank, that screen will let the UV light through and will protect incase the fixture might come loose and hit the water. Very Happy

Thanks for the advice. I wonder if there is anything else that we need for him (her? we don't know yet). If anyone can look at our setup and let me know I would greatly appreciate it.
