Has anyone tried putting live plants in there turtle tank?
If so, is it hard to keep them alive? And do you have to do anything special to make them stay alive?
Thanks,
Nick |

From what I have read of other posters is that plants rarely stay alive for very long, the turtles either uproot them or they just plain destroy them, If you want the plants for decoration I wouldn't expect them to last very long. _________________

I have a planted turtle tank. Like STRAY was talking about before... they usually mess up the plants. Thats why turtles and gold fish never have plants, because the simply eat plants. I wanted to put plants in my turtle tank to provide a nice 'nature' typa feeling and some colorful plants. I also wanted a biological filter in my turtle tank since turtles 'poop' much more than fish, the plants acts as an awesome filter to take the 'poop' as nutrients and filters the water. In order for me to include plants in my 70 gallon turtle tank, I had to create the forbidden garden of Eden. Many different plants have been arranged, but I have put a cage on it so that the turtles can't dig up and eat the plants. Although I also have floatings plants like duck weed and salvania free floating in my tank.... turtles like to eat duck weed.
