You seem to be doing ok so far, you are actually doing better than me:D, I would add a basking light and a UV bulb, other than that it looks good, by the way, what\'s with the $20 on the front of the tank? _________________

| yeah the basking lamp is necessary. although the light in there has some UV in it.. so its better than what they have had.. but im getting some more stuff of course... the 20 was just so u could get an idea of the size vs the pic.. figured it would help see it alittle better when u have something that u know the size of to judge from.. |

ok opening back this topic, i don\'t think those guys are 20 yrs old cz by then they should\'ve lost their colors..i saw adult RES\'s that are completely dark brown, black, or olive..i don\'t know about those one.. _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

Well, I tend to agree, but purplem3pursuit did say that he/she has had them for 20 years, so they should be at least that old. _________________

that\'s what\'s confusing me..their sizes aren\'t the size of a 20 yr old RES either! _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

he said that he keep them in a 40 gallon with 25 gallon of water...that bring us back of that topic about the \"death bowl\",where i was saying that probably(PERSONAL OPINION)a turtles will not grow as big as she suppose to if she was stuck in a too small enclosure and will probably end-up with deformity or death...i think that enclosure was big enought to not kill them but enought to prevent they normal grow...i gaved a example with the corset for woman,who\'s been used and deform and kill(feotus)for a long time... _________________ i'm not a expert,i just try to help.... |

| im a he... lol.. but yeah... they were in a tank WAY to small... and they have been with me for the 20 years.. there color is already starting to change.. and they are growing like mad.. lol.. im picking up full sized pieces of shell left and right.. so apparently they are getting aquainted with there new home.. now the tank is full of water and i made the plexi glass top surround... ill post pix as soon as i get my digi cam back.. btw... how big should a 20 year old slider be? i think i measured one at about 7 inches.. the other is smaller.. i just can\'t afford a bigger tank nor knew anything about them when i purchased my 75 gallon.. thats my biggest issue is money.. so yeah for 20 years they last with 25 gallons of water.. and now in the turn of a month, they went from that.. to about 40 gallons of water.. and now to 75 gallons of water.. hopefully they will be ok with that for a few years.. then ill probably end up getting a 200 gallon tank if possible or something thats just enormous.. |

wow 200 will be cool..i don\'t know if they\'ll still grow in size (unless they get advantage of the increased space)..are both ur turtles males? cz i think they are small to be females since they reach up to 12\"..males are up to 9\" so maybe,, _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| i don\'t know.. its hard to say.. one of the turtles is kind of agressive and snaps at the other so ill assume i would assume it to be female.. but its the smaller of the 2 (probably about 6 inches in length).. im not really sure.. i hope that they guys grow to full size.. i really do.. they are so neat to watch walk around.. but then i will be getting that 200+ gallon job for sure.. it would be crazy.. but it would be the right thing for them now.. just can\'t do it though.. |

u can tell mostly from their nails..i think it should be clear by now..the aggressive one might be the male trying to mate..i do believe that females grow much faster:) _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

ahhh.. yeah there ya go.. never thought about that.. ya now that u say that and then i looked at the nails, the mail is the smaller one.. the nails on the big guy are huge compared to the smaller one.. how often should i see eggs etc... i saw one egg about 5 years ago.. and that was it.. i tried to hatch it but that was before i was aquainted with the internet and i had no idea how to ge tthem to hatch.. maybe ill try it sometime... that is next time theres an egg in the tank..
ya know after thinking for awhile. i have a feeling my turtles hibernated a few times.. how does that affect there growth? the only reason i say that is that when i was gone at school, my father would turn my heat down to like 50... lol.. as bad as that sounds.. is that below the kill zone and into the hibernation zone? |

hmm then yeah the male has longer nails and is the smaller in size..(btw it\'s not the size of the claw, it\'s the length of the nails)..i don\'t know about the eggs but hibernation temp. would be the same as the outside one since they hibernate by themselves in nature..actually it is good if done in the right way cz it boost up their strengths when they get back _________________ Wed 10/27/2004 is the worst day..i lost my best friend Leo

| I saw the same trick used in the movie the bone collector, where angelina jolies character use a one dollar bill for scale of a foot print at a crime scene. I saw your 20 there and thought, \"what a clever person\". |
