Here is my story... I allowed my daughters age 3 and 5 to go to the beach with their grandparents over the weekend. As is common these grandparents will buy anything for their grandkids... well while at the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina State Park they purchased two turtles....

They are adorable and I want to take perfect care of them. However we have a huge problem.... I dont know what kind of turtles they are...The grandparents didnt really pay attention to what kind they were and my kids are clueless about them other than the fact that they love them...

I have a few photos of them.. someone help!!!

They are sweet.... They look like common Red Eared Sliders. You will definately find every bit of information that you need right on this site. For starters you will need a tank - for now a 10 gallon will do. You will need a basking area, which is a spot that they can climb out of the water to dry off. Over the basking area you will need a light for heat - it should be 80 - 85 degrees under this light. You will also need a filter, as turtles are VERY messy little animals. Don\'t put aquarium gravel on the bottom. When they get big enough they will eat it, and it also makes the tank harder to clean. River rocks can be used or nothing at all. You can take a look at my tank setup - follow this link and look under \"Joe\'s Tank\" - her tank really isn\'t crowded, it is the background on the tank that makes it appear that way.
